“Credit Bentley’s excellent production work and the genius of the respective players with the final, moving results. This is jazz for classical music heads, classical music for jazzbos and something to recommend to all.” ~ Stuart Derdeyn (The Vancouver Sun)

Jon Bentley received his Bachelor Degree in Saxophone Jazz Performance from Capilano University in Vancouver. Jon has studied the tenor saxophone extensively both in Vancouver and in New York with critically acclaimed saxophonist Seamus Blake. Bentley was also the recipient of a Canada Council grant that sent him to London, England to study composition and arranging with Canadian trumpeter/ composer icon Kenny Wheeler.

Soulful, bluesy, funky, straight ahead and swinging. Jon Bentley’s saxophone/organ jazz quartet plays a mix of originals and classic jazz repertoire with a modern aesthetic. As of March 2025, their debut album “Go Ahead!” is now available on vinyl, CD, and all streaming platforms on the Cellar Music label.

As a versatile pianist and multi-keyboardist, composer, engineer and producer he has worked on over 500 albums covering a wide range of musical styles. As a jazz artist, Gestrin has performed on and off the stage not only with his great Canadian colleagues, but with a who’s who of the Jazz world. “I was in the mood to listen to Stablemates, so I YouTubed a few versions. This live version gets recommended, and I discover this killing Canadian drummer, Joe Poole. The man is such a pleasure to listen to: chops, feel, swing, and all that natural syncopation that really differentiates a jazz player.” ~ Poetman
